N6ADJ

Ralph Eschborn

N6ADJ, Ralph Eschborn, was born in Buffalo, New York on May 9, 1918. He lived there until he went to engineering college at the University of Kentucky. After graduating in 1943, he served in WWII as a Captain in the Army Air Corps and the Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Base in Dayton, Ohio. He worked for NASA (NACA) for 5 years, then left to go into industry and retired here in California in 1985.

Ralph started as an amateur radio operator in Ohio in 1952 with the call of K8SEP. He moved to California in 1966 and became N6ADJ with an advanced ticket. He served as Commodore of the Hollywood Yacht Club and was also active in United States Power Squadrons: Los Angeles Squadron Commander and District Commander of District 13. He served on the USPS National Radio Technical Committee. 

He was active in the Los Angeles area on the Baja California Maritime Net before moving aboard his boat "Bright Star" docked at the San Diego Yacht Club. Ralph cruised Mexico and the Sea of Cortez for six months in 1986 where he was active as XE2GFD as well as XE2/N6ADJ. He helped build and establish the Amateur Radio Group and the ham shack at SDYC, acting as Chairman for two years and still is an active member. Ralph became Net Manager of the Baja California Maritime Net while in San Diego.

Moving to Rancho Mirage in 1987 he built his ham shack with 45-foot tower and beam on 10, 15, 20 & 40 meters. Ralph Eschborn, N6ADJ was appointed to the Maritime Order of the Golden Key in January, 1993 by the Southern California Yachting Association. He remains active on the Baja Net (7238/7262 KHz 0800 Pacific Time (Net Controller on Fridays); Mañana Net (14340 KHz 1900Z); Wheels and Keels Net (7262 KHz 0730 & 1730 Pacific Time); and in the evenings on 75 meters (3944 KHz 1730 Pacific Time) with the "5:30 GROUP".
