W6MWB

Rod McLennan

Rod is also the trustee for W6IM, the San Diego Yacht Club Amateur Radio Group station.  He received his license in 1951 as one of the first Novice Class and was given the call WN6MWB.  During his early hamming days, he worked 10-meter mobile, full carrier AM of course.  His transmitter was made up of subminiature vacuum tubes and was fitted in the glove compartment of his 1950 Chevy.

Rod's other hobbies are boating and computers.  He has owned several sailboats, the last being a Tayana 37 cutter.  He moved on to a power boat in 2000 and now owns an Ocean Alexander 38 trawler.

He is the system operator of W6IM, which is one of about 30 Winlink stations situated around the world.  W6IM handles about 3500 separate contacts and processes around 7,000 messages each month.

Rod's station at home is a Kenwood TS 440 running a simple 40-meter dipole for the Baja Net.
